I second AsianAG's advice. It would be good for you two to read the books....and also watch the Samantha movie.

And don't worry about buying her all of the outfits and things at once. It really is more fun to add things a bit at a time. Oh...and adding Samantha to the mix is an excellent idea. Many girls find it more fun to play when they have two dolls.

You girls are going to make such happy memories collecting AG together! Welcome to our group!

Welcome! If you're looking to get your daughter two dolls (I thought that's what you meant, but I'm not sure), I would get Samantha and Nellie with the best friends set. Their stories are so intertwined that they are great playmates. Secondly, Changes for Samantha and Nellie's Promise imply that Nellie and Samantha share a bed. Brass beds like Samantha's were all the rage in 1904, so even if they slept in separate beds, Nellie's would probably be brass just like Sam's. Maybe you could make different bedding for Nellie? Nellie can legitimately wear all of Samantha's collection, and for a time, while Gard and Cornelia were getting the girls settled, probably would have worn Sam's clothes! Good luck, and if you have any more questions, just ask! Your DD will have a perfect AG Christmas

Welcome! Your DD picked a great doll . I am hoping to get Nellie for Christmas this year . I would also suggest that you stick to purchasing direct from AG unless you are looking for a specific item. If you want to give your DD another AG doll for her birthday, why don't you sit down with her and look through an AG catalog? You could ask her to show you her favorite dolls and outfits.

First - Welcome to the board and AG!! We started collecting last year this time and just love it! Warning though - you will be buying a doll (or two) for you before you know it.

Second - Yes, I think ebay is generally more expensive this time of year. Wait until around April or May and thru the summer and you will see prices drop (of course the selection drops too as there is not as much listed). If you are willing to be patient and hunt ebay everyday, you can (and will) find some great ebay deals.

Welcome to the board! I have another suggestion for your daughter. My daughter loves to sing and this past summer we did the "Day at American Girl Place" package. In it they send you a CD for the show ahead of time called "The Circle of Friends". The show is about each of the girls but there is a song on there called "Nellies Shoes" which is really nice I don't know if you can buy it online but you don't have to order the package to get it, you maybe able to order it from the store and have them mail it to you. It's about $15 and would make a great stocking stuffer!

Hi and Welcome! My 7 year old daughter and I went to American Girl in NYC in September and that's where it all started for us. She didn't get a doll then, but has been wanting one ever since, so she's getting Kit and a lot of clothes for Chrismtas. She also is asking for all AG this Christmas.

One good thing about Nellie (and Kit) that those on this board turned me on to is that the short hair is much easier to care for--it stays nice instead of getting all frizzy.

I suggest that you get your daughter the boxed set of Samantha books as one of her gifts. You can get them at most large book stores. The "Nellie's Promise" book which comes with the Nellie doll is actually the seventh book in the Samantha series (not counting the short stories). "The Curse of Ravenscourt" is a Samantha and Nellie mystery that occurs after "Nellie's Promise." Anyway, once you read the Samantha series, Nellie and Samantha's collections will make more sense. Then your daughter will probably have no objections to Nellie using Samantha's things. Considering that Samantha's collection is the largest of all the AG historical doll's, you will probably end up thankful that Nellie's is rather modest.
